Malden mourns the loss of a local teen and former basketball star. The 18 year old graduate of Malden High School was walking to work in Newton, MA on January 3 when he was struck and killed by an automobile.
At approximately 6:30 a.m., Reishaun Hopkins was crossing Route 128 in Newton, an eight lane highway. A vehicle on the northbound sign struck him, throwing him across the median onto the southbound side, where he was struck again on that side of the highway. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Hopkins was crossing to get to his job at the Honey Dew Donuts, located at the Newton rest stop.
While no charges were filed, the crash remains under investigation.
